Chartered Accountant | Ecommerce Financial Control & Clean Books

Role Overview

We are a ~$15M multi-channel ecommerce brand operating across Shopify (DTC), wholesale, and marketplaces. Following a period of weak financial discipline, the company requires a senior accountant to rebuild the integrity of its financial records and support upcoming lending and Series A fundraising.

This is not a bookkeeping role and not a junior “keep the ledger ticking” position.

You will own the accuracy of the financial records and create a set of books that leadership, lenders and investors can rely on. The FP&A lead will use your output to run the business — therefore precision, structure and control are critical.

You must be a fully qualified chartered accountant with strong ecommerce accounting experience including settlements, inventory and multi-channel revenue recognition.

Core Responsibilities

Financial Clean-Up & Control

• Lead full historical reconciliation and clean-up of accounts

• Restore balance sheet integrity and eliminate unsupported balances

• Implement accounting policies and documentation standards

• Ensure accounts are diligence and audit ready at all times

• Establish a reliable month-end close process
  

Ecommerce Revenue Accounting

• Reconcile Shopify, Amazon and payment processor settlements

• Monitor platform fees, reserves, refunds, returns and chargebacks

• Maintain clearing accounts and revenue timing accuracy

• Ensure channel-level reporting ties to accounting records

• Manage A2X (or equivalent) reconciliation tools
  

Inventory & Cost Accounting

• Reconcile inventory across Shopify, 3PLs and accounting systems

• Implement perpetual inventory accounting

• Allocate landed costs (freight, duty, packaging, inbound handling)

• Identify shrinkage, mis-postings and margin inaccuracies

• Support margin accuracy and COGS validation
  
  

Wholesale Accounting

• Revenue recognition across wholesale customers

• Retailer deductions, chargebacks and returns provisions

• AR collections tracking and payment term monitoring

• Rep commissions, rebates and adjustments
  
  

AP / AR & Payments

• Vendor statement reconciliation

• Payment scheduling aligned with cash plan

• Payment processor reconciliation (Shopify Payments, PayPal, Klarna etc.)

• Maintain accurate receivables and collections visibility
  
  

Month-End & Reporting Support

• Own monthly close mechanics

• Accruals, deferred revenue and balance sheet schedules

• Maintain supporting documentation for lenders, auditors and investors

• Work closely with FP&A to ensure reporting reliability
  
  

Requirements

• Chartered Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CPA) — mandatory

• 8+ years accounting experience in ecommerce / retail / consumer goods

• Strong Shopify accounting experience

• Marketplace exposure (Amazon Seller/Vendor Central)

• Inventory accounting and landed cost experience

• Due diligence or audit preparation experience

• Advanced Excel reconciliation skills

• Comfortable working in messy environments requiring rebuild
