Position Title: Senior Ecommerce Accountant / Controller

Company Overview

Sunday Citizen is a rapidly growing direct-to-consumer home textiles and comfort brand specializing in luxury bedding, loungewear, and furniture. The business operates primarily through Shopify ecommerce (≈90% of revenue) with expanding wholesale channels and international sourcing.

We are seeking a highly hands-on Senior Ecommerce Accountant / Controller who understands the operational realities of a scaling DTC brand: Shopify financial reconciliation, inventory accounting, multistate sales tax, and cash flow management.

This role is not a traditional corporate accounting position. We need someone who has worked directly inside ecommerce businesses and understands the complexity of Shopify-based revenue, inventory imports, and fulfillment operations.

Primary Responsibilities

Financial Operations

• Maintain accurate accounting in QuickBooks Online or similar cloud accounting platform

• Reconcile Shopify payouts, payment processors, and bank activity

• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable across vendors, logistics providers, and wholesale partners

• Oversee monthly close and maintain clean financial reporting

Ecommerce Financial Control

• Review and reconcile Shopify orders, refunds, chargebacks, and payment gateways

• Work with Fulfil ERP (inventory and order management) to ensure accurate COGS and inventory accounting

• Monitor ecommerce financial performance including margins, product costs, and fulfillment expenses

Inventory & Supply Chain Accounting

• Track inventory movement from overseas factories through 3PL warehouses

• Maintain accurate inventory valuation and landed cost accounting

• Coordinate with operations on purchase orders, freight costs, and inventory reconciliation

Sales Tax Compliance

• Manage multistate sales tax filings and reconciliation

• Work with Shopify tax tools and/or Avalara/TaxJar as needed

• Coordinate with external SALT advisors when required

Cash Flow Management

• Maintain and update a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast

• Monitor liquidity, vendor payments, and receivables

• Support leadership with weekly financial dashboards

Wholesale Accounting

• Manage invoicing and collections for wholesale partners

• Track deductions, chargebacks, and payment terms

Systems & Tools (Must Have Experience)

• Shopify financial reconciliation

• QuickBooks Online (or similar cloud accounting platform)

• Ecommerce inventory systems such as Fulfil ERP or comparable OMS/ERP

• Excel / Google Sheets advanced financial modeling

• Payment processors (Shopify Payments, PayPal, Stripe)

Required Experience

• 5–10+ years accounting experience

• Direct experience working inside a Shopify or ecommerce brand

• Strong understanding of inventory accounting and COGS

• Experience managing multistate sales tax compliance

• Experience building 13-week cash flow forecasts

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Has worked at a DTC ecommerce brand ($10M–$50M revenue)

• Comfortable operating in a fast-moving entrepreneurial environment

• Highly detail-oriented but capable of thinking strategically

• Proactive and able to identify financial issues before they become problems

Nice to Have

• Experience with consumer product brands importing from Asia

• Experience working with 3PL fulfillment networks

• Experience supporting financing or lender reporting
