We are commencing a search for a UK-based finance professional to join Sunday Citizen, a rapidly growing direct-to-consumer luxury home and lifestyle brand specializing in premium bedding, bath, loungewear, and comfort products.

We are open to candidates ranging from a strong Senior Accountant or Finance Manager through to a Financial Controller level, depending on qualifications, relevant experience, and demonstrated ability to operate independently in an e-commerce environment.

This is not a traditional accounting position. We are specifically seeking an individual with meaningful experience in direct-to-consumer e-commerce, inventory-based businesses, Shopify, ERP systems, cash flow management, and financial reporting.

The business manages inventory across multiple fulfillment locations and is focused on improving financial reporting, cash flow visibility, inventory controls, and operational efficiency.

Position Title

Senior Accountant / Finance Manager / Financial Controller

Key Responsibilities

•⁠ ⁠Own and manage the monthly financial close process and deliver accurate financial statements within 15 days of month-end.

•⁠ ⁠Prepare monthly management accounts, variance analysis, KPI reporting, and executive financial summaries.

•⁠ ⁠Develop and maintain rolling 13-week cash flow forecasts.

•⁠ ⁠Manage accounts payable processes, vendor payments, and working capital planning.

•⁠ ⁠Maintain and oversee accounting records within QuickBooks Online.

•⁠ ⁠Reconcile Shopify sales activity, payment processors, merchant accounts, refunds, chargebacks, and marketplace transactions.

•⁠ ⁠Work closely with management to provide timely financial reporting and operational insights.

•⁠ ⁠Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives.

•⁠ ⁠Oversee ERP system utilization and ensure data integrity between ERP, inventory systems, Shopify, and accounting platforms.

•⁠ ⁠Monitor inventory accounting, landed costs, freight expenses, duties, fulfillment costs, and cost of goods sold.

•⁠ ⁠Reconcile inventory movements and work closely with operations and logistics teams.

•⁠ ⁠Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and financial partners.

•⁠ ⁠Improve financial controls, reporting processes, and system automation.

•⁠ ⁠Support investor, lender, and board reporting requirements.

•⁠ ⁠Monitor and report on key business metrics, including gross margins, inventory turnover, cash conversion cycle, customer acquisition costs, and contribution margins.

Required Qualifications

•⁠ ⁠Minimum 5–10 years of accounting and finance experience.

•⁠ ⁠Significant experience within an e-commerce, direct-to-consumer, retail, or consumer products company.

•⁠ ⁠Strong hands-on Shopify experience.

•⁠ ⁠Strong QuickBooks Online expertise.

•⁠ ⁠Experience preparing monthly management accounts and financial reporting packages.

•⁠ ⁠Experience creating and maintaining rolling cash flow forecasts.

•⁠ ⁠Strong understanding of inventory accounting and cost of goods sold.

•⁠ ⁠Experience working within ERP systems and system integrations.

•⁠ ⁠Advanced Excel and financial modeling capabilities.

•⁠ ⁠Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

•⁠ ⁠ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent professional qualification.

•⁠ ⁠Experience with Amazon marketplace accounting.

•⁠ ⁠Experience with international operations and multi-currency accounting.

•⁠ ⁠Experience with inventory-heavy consumer products businesses.

•⁠ ⁠Experience managing third-party logistics (3PL) accounting and warehouse reconciliations.

Compensation

Target salary range: £65,000–£80,000 per annum for a strong Senior Accountant or Finance Manager candidate.

For candidates with exceptional qualifications and directly relevant experience in e-commerce finance, Shopify, ERP systems, inventory accounting, Amazon marketplace accounting, cash flow management, and financial leadership, compensation may be significantly higher.

We are open to considering Financial Controller-level candidates, with compensation potentially ranging from £90,000–£120,000+ for an outstanding individual who can immediately add value and operate with minimal supervision.

Compensation will be determined based upon experience, qualifications, technical expertise, and demonstrated success within high-growth e-commerce businesses.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have worked within a fast-growing Shopify-based consumer brand and will understand the operational realities of inventory management, fulfillment, cash flow forecasting, gross margin analysis, and multi-channel e-commerce accounting.

We are less concerned with title and more concerned with practical experience. We would prefer a highly capable Finance Manager with extensive Shopify and e-commerce experience over a traditional accountant whose background is primarily outside of consumer products and e-commerce.
