Senior Accountant / Finance Manager / Financial Controller

Sunday Citizen is a rapidly growing direct-to-consumer luxury home and lifestyle brand specializing in premium bedding, bath, loungewear, and comfort products. The business operates primarily through Shopify, Amazon, wholesale partnerships, and international distribution channels, managing inventory across multiple fulfillment locations.

As the company continues to scale, we are seeking a finance professional who understands the operational and financial realities of a modern e-commerce retailer and can provide strong financial leadership across reporting, cash flow, inventory management, and business performance.

Position Summary

We are conducting a search for a USA-based finance professional to join Sunday Citizen.

We are open to candidates ranging from a strong Senior Accountant or Finance Manager through to a Financial Controller level, depending on qualifications, experience, and demonstrated ability.

This is not a traditional accounting role.

We are specifically seeking an individual who has built their career within true direct-to-consumer e-commerce businesses and understands every major financial component of operating a multi-channel online retailer. The ideal candidate has worked within a consumer brand generating at least USD 20 million in annual revenue and has hands-on experience supporting the financial operations of a growing inventory-based e-commerce company.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and manage the monthly financial close process and deliver accurate financial statements within 15 days of month-end.

• Prepare monthly management accounts, variance analysis, KPI reporting, and executive financial summaries.

• Develop and maintain rolling 13-week cash flow forecasts and working capital plans.

• Manage accounts payable processes, vendor payments, and cash management activities.

• Maintain and oversee accounting records within QuickBooks Online.

• Reconcile Shopify sales activity, payment processors, merchant accounts, refunds, chargebacks, and marketplace transactions.

• Monitor and analyze key e-commerce financial metrics, including gross margins, contribution margins, customer acquisition costs, inventory turnover, cash conversion cycle, and fulfillment costs.

• Partner closely with operations, logistics, inventory planning, and executive leadership teams to support decision-making.

• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives.

• Oversee ERP system utilization and ensure data integrity between ERP, inventory systems, Shopify, Amazon, and accounting platforms.

• Manage inventory accounting, landed costs, freight expenses, duties, fulfillment costs, and cost of goods sold.

• Reconcile inventory movements across warehouses, 3PL providers, and fulfillment partners.

• Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and financial partners.

• Improve financial controls, reporting processes, systems integration, and automation initiatives.

• Support investor, lender, and board reporting requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5–10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.

• Significant experience within a direct-to-consumer (DTC) e-commerce business where online sales represented the primary revenue channel.

• Experience supporting finance and accounting operations for an e-commerce retailer generating at least USD 20 million in annual revenue.

• Strong hands-on Shopify experience.

• Strong QuickBooks Online expertise.

• Experience preparing monthly management accounts, financial reporting packages, and executive-level reporting.

• Experience building and maintaining rolling cash flow forecasts.

• Strong understanding of inventory accounting, working capital management, and cost of goods sold.

• Experience operating within inventory-heavy consumer products businesses.

• Experience working with ERP systems and system integrations.

• Advanced Excel and financial modeling capabilities.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to operate independently within a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent professional qualification.

• Experience with Amazon marketplace accounting and reporting.

• Experience with international operations and multi-currency accounting.

• Experience managing third-party logistics (3PL) accounting and warehouse reconciliations.

• Experience working in businesses with annual revenues exceeding USD 50 million.

• Experience supporting high-growth consumer brands through periods of rapid scale.

Compensation

Base salary of up to USD 100,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

The role also includes the opportunity to earn an annual bonus of up to 10%, based on performance and other mutually agreed-upon objectives between the employee and the company.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate has worked within a high-growth Shopify-based consumer brand generating USD 20M+ in annual revenue and has developed a deep understanding of the operational and financial mechanics of running a successful online retailer.

This individual understands inventory management, fulfillment operations, cash flow forecasting, gross margin optimization, working capital planning, multi-channel sales, ERP integrations, and e-commerce financial reporting. They are comfortable operating independently, partnering with leadership, and driving improvements across both accounting and finance functions.

We are less concerned with title and more concerned with practical experience. We would prefer a highly capable Finance Manager with deep e-commerce expertise over a traditional accountant whose background is primarily outside direct-to-consumer consumer brands and online retail.
